Snowday :: Family Fun Friday

"Train up a child in the way he should shovel and, when he is big enough, you won't have to." - Stephanie's paraphrase of Proverbs 22:6.

The great thing about shoveling snow is that my kids think we're having fun!  (In the interest of full disclosure I do very little of the actual shoveling.)  What they don't know is that Daddy is training them to take over the job when they are a little taller and stronger. {bwhahahaha!}

Ben helping Daddy shovel our driveway
after the Blizzard of Christmas 2010.

Until then we just hand them long ice scrapers/brushes and let them knock the snow off the vehicles.

Ellie (4 years) brushes the snow off Daddy's truck.

Ben (5 years) is a little taller so he gets to clean the van.

Letting kids help you with household chores, like shoveling snow, can take a little (or a lot) extra time but the memories you make together are worth an extra 30 minutes in the snow!

And when you are finished shoveling just throw in a few snowballs, snow angels, a snowman and you have a Family Fun Friday!

Have you been shoveling snow or building snowmen this winter?  When was the last time you had a good snowball fight?

And if you end up moving some place South where it doesn't snow? Then you've made some awfully good memories!

I know!! Last year (when I thought I'd be in TX by now) I was really sad that I wouldn't have any fun pics of Sam in the snow, like I have of the other kids. Well, with a blizzard and 2 more good snow storms and and another storm expected this week - I definitely have lots of fun snow pics of Sam!

Ah yes! I love that our kiddos love shoveling! We have several shovels, including kids size snow shovels which makes it easier for them to help out! Of course, wnen you have so much snow that the piles are bigger than they are it gets a little more difficult for them to help! :) Seriously, we're throwing snow up a good 5 feel in most spots...with more on the way!

Kid sized snow shovels? Great idea!! We're in the same boat for shoveling. We have huge mounds on either sides of our driveway that are 2 to 4 feet deep. With more snow expected this week, I don't know what we'll do with it!
