Explaining the side bar, comments, and a few links.

Have you noticed that I played with my sidebar (that column on the right) this weekend. I updated my links, shuffled the listings around and installed a widget (all by myself without Joel's help!!) for the labels. By the way, if you don't like the look of the archives just click on the arrow and it will collapse them down to 2 lines. You can also subscribe to my content or comment feed.

I played with some of my settings as well. I've taken the word verification off. I'd really appreciate it if everyone would leave me a comment - at least once. Just so I know who all is admiring my cute kids and bored to tears with my writing. You don't have to sign into google or have a blog or anything like that. Just check "anonymous" and type your comment. But don't forget to sign your name. Even last names are optional. And if you are related to me, I'd prefer you NOT put your last name, for security reasons.

If you pay attention to my Real Life Friends links you'll notice a few new ones. I especially want to draw attention to Whereever He Leads We'll Go. This is our friends Mike, Dawn, and Miss Emily. You can read more of their story by finding "Miss Emily" in my labels. You can read recent updates by visiting their blog.

Also, I'd like to highlight a new blog, Singing New Songs. This is my sister-in-law (Joel's little sis) who is very brave and putting her poetry out there for the world to read. Go. Comment. Only nice ones though! I think you'll find her writings inspiring and convicting. I know I have.

Last but not least, I've been considering starting another blog for all my home school activities, ideas, links, etc. I would put most of those pesky book reviews over there as well. My main purpose in a separate blog would be for my own benefit. So I can look back at the end of the year and see what all we've done. Kind of like how I use ...In the Kitchen.

What do you think about a separate home school blog? Would you rather NOT read about our phonics program and math goals? Or are you fascinated by that kind of stuff? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Thanks for visiting the Johnson Chronicles. And thanks for the prayers. God bless you and your family. Double blessing on your forthcoming tenant eviction in October (I'm an October "bab")

Well, you know *I* would want to read your homeschool stuff since I'm right along there with you. :) I just pile all mine in the same blog because I figure it's too much work to spread it out all over the place, but I have some friend that it works better to compartimentalize (sp?) things. Do what works best for you! :)

Hi, thanks for the plug! I had wanted to leave comments in the past, but I didn't want to register with google to do it. Now I am registered, so I guess it doesn't matter. I would read your homeschool blog, since I will be homeschooling myself in another year or two.

Thanks for the plug to our blog!

Love what you have done with the labels - I am VERY impressed.

As for the separate blog - I say go for it if it works for you. I know you are an organized woman & keeping things separate might make the most sense. My only concern: I don't want you to be overwhelmed by trying to update 3 blogs & home school & take care of your family & everything else. And even though I don't home school - I would enjoy reading your posts about it (and I am sure many other home school families would as well).

Steph, I'd totally love to hear about your homeschooling journey! What works for you guys...what doesn't...all about the phonics and the math. You know I'm a details girls, too! :) :) :)
I LOVE the book reviews on your blog! They inspire me to search my library with three kids in tow...4 if you count Sawyer. I sometimes have to go back and search your blog for that book I liked before we head out. I really should get a nice pad of paper and a pencil to keep neatly beside my computer for those kind of things!!! Anyway, yes, I love the idea. I liked your "In the Kitchen" blog, too...can't remember if I've commented there, but I have read...and have been inspired to steal that idea to get organized with some of my own recipes. Do you mind if I steal that idea??? :) I even took a picture of some yummy Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs we made recently with that in mind....if I ever get organized enough to do that. :)...LOVED the red, white and blue dessert you made, too...definitely made me hungry and I decided I WILL try that recipe at some point. THANKS! Christie

I'm fascinated with homeschooling, truly. So, I'll read it wherever you post it.

Christie, I always label my posts (usually with multiple labels). So when you are looking for a book I've talked about if you search under the "Books" label (find the labels and the sidebar at right) it will bring up all the posts I've done about books. Also, children's books I try to remember to add the "Homeschool" label to.

Glad you like ...In the Kitchen. It's main purpose is to organize my recipes and recipes I find online that I like. It makes things easier and quicker when I make out my menu and grocery list.

Okay, I'm going to try this again and see if your blog will accept my comments now. (Not that I ever have anything brilliant to say, but grandmothers love to "oou" and "ahh" over their grandkids' pictures.)

I think I've shared my thoughts with you, but I always appreciate every comment so I'll leave one for you as well! Even though I'm not homeschooling, you know I love every bit of it. I'll enjoy reading any homeschool stuff on this blog AND I would subscribe to your homeschool blog if you make a separate one. I think if I were doing it I would want it separate because it will basically be an electronic file for when the next child enters that grade, but it all depends how your mind compartmentalizes is. Last plug: Total strangers will be more apt to read a "homeschool only" blog, and you can refer them to your family blog. Okay, I'm done. Have you made a decision?

Alicia - that was my line of thinking on a home school blog. I've decided to start one mainly to have a separate record to organize HS stuff in for when Ben is starting K and I can't remember what I did with Will. = )
