Here's a good laugh for you folks down South.

Rhode Island is in the midst of a scorching heat wave. All you Southerners just said, "it's June, of course it's hot!" But no. Not in New England. I don't usually have to turn on my AC until the end of July.

So, we're having a heat wave for the last 4 days. (Go ahead and laugh.) Yesterday, June 9, the temperature reached 97 degrees. The thermometer in my house read 90. And I had a good cross breeze blowing through the house. I really try to hold off on the AC. I like those low electric bills and if I start running it now then I'm pretty much done with sweating for the rest of the summer.

But even I have my limits. I could have stuck it out. I was only moderately uncomfortable but around 3 pm I had 3 cranky children who dripped sweat (they got the sweat genes from their dad) and the thought of cooking supper in 90 degree heat was too much for me.

So I turned the AC on.

According to our local television station we set a new heat record yesterday. We beat the record from June 9, 1984. I remember that month. I lived in Arkansas then. I'm pretty sure temperatures were close to the 90s there, too. I specifically remember that month because my 20 year-old uncle drowned swimming in Beaver Lake. Very traumatic for a 9.5 year-old girl.

Sorry. Back to my point. Because of the current heat wave one local public school has canceled classes today and others are running abbreviated schedules. It seems crazy to me since they only have about 2 weeks of school left. But no one asked my opinion. I'm guessing they don't have AC in the schools.

Hey! Neither did I growing up and we survived heat a lot worse than this. With 90% humidity and those ridiculous windows that only tilted in rather than opening. Ah, now those were the days memories are made of.

Yeah, our AC is on too. I couldn't take it! Even with the AC on I am BURNING UP at night! :)

I feel for you up North. I know you aren't used to it. My AC HAS to run. I'm just trying not to run it too cool. It does help when I'm the only one in the house. I can be as cranky as I want or just go somewhere else. I have to say I'm looking forward to going to Kenya in a couple of weeks. Dad says it's cold right now. Yeah!

Sorry it's so hot there!

I have to turn our AC on when it gets in the 90s here, but we're still holding our own in the 70s and possibly today we'll hit 80. I think Denver is supposed to reach 90 today, but we're almost 2000 feet higher in elevation which translates into a 10 degrees temperature difference.

Stay cool (as much as you can)! Being pregnant in the summer was always hard for me. I had some HIGH electricity bills the year I had a July baby!

Here in Ohio last night we had some major thunder storms and lightening but today is in the low 70's. I'm trying to push it your way. Hope it gets there soon!

We have had the hot-humid awful, um I mean summer weather, for a little while now and I don't believe there will be any relief soon. Today it was cooler, but if you go outside it doesn't feel any cooler to me. We have had our AC on & the ceiling fans too!

I have found that I really do have that northern mentality that it just shouldn't be this hot yet. I keep wondering what happened to spring - did I miss it? And I find myself wanting to move to Alaska, but that may be a little too north for me, after all!

That's just funny.

It's been over 100 here in NC already. The boys and I made a trip to Lowe's to buy ceiling fans for their rooms yesterday. They were so excited. Connor's room gets direct sunlight so I've decided to move him to the back room since he's the biggest napper in the fam. Last year no one wanted to walk into that room during the afternoon...much less nap there!! We've had the AC on for weeks, but it's having a hard time keeping up with the heat. We try to keep the thermometer set at the same temp because if we don't it's really hard for the AC to "catch up" with the heat in the afternoon and it gets miserable. I have no idea what our electric bill will be like, but I just paid our gas & electric bills and they were well under budget this month so that's not really helping me be motivated to turn the thermostat up. :)

Todd had a day trip to a town outside White Plains, NY yesterday. He called me from the airport & from a store there and was going on and on about how hot it was there in NY. :)I think he was hoping for a break from the heat we've been having here.
