I'm a Coppertone® Water Mom

Fair skin, light brown hair, blue eyes, freckles. A description of my appearance reads like a check-list for skin cancer. Throw in "lived down South from birth to 22" and it's almost a given.

So it came as no surprise in the spring of 2008 when a dermatologist declared the sore that refused to heal in my hairline was actually basal cell carcinoma.

Skin cancer. But not the scary kind.

Basal cell rarely spreads and can be treated by cutting it out. Today I have a pretty cross-shaped scar in my hairline and down the middle of my forehead. And a lesson to be diligent in wearing sunscreen so I avoid sunburns (and skin cancer).

That last part is why I agreed to be a Coppertone® Water Mom. I don't want my children (or anyone else's children) to have a completely preventable scar. So I try to be diligent in applying sunscreen to my kids.

To help me spread the word about Coppertone® and their products they sent me a box filled with great stuff! A beach bag, beach ball, water bottle, 2 full-sized bottles of sunscreen and a ton of sample-sized bottles, as well as coupons.

I'm all for gifting my friends with a free sample of a product that will help protect kids from the harmful UV rays! If you see me, be sure to ask for a sample!

What is your favorite form of sunscreen: stick, lotion, spray, or foam?

Disclosure: As a member of the Coppertone® Water MOMS group, I receive product samples and promotional items to share and use as I see fit.  No monetary compensation has taken place and any opinions expressed by me are honest and reflect my actual experience.

Congrats Steph! My favorite kind is a spray.

I like spray, Trader Joe's has a good one without all of the cancer causing chemicals that most mainstream brands have!

Candice, I honestly don't like the spray. I have to put it on my hands to do faces and necks so I might as well just use the lotion.

Anonymous, it really is OK to have different opinions. Since I don't know if you are a friend who isn't sure how to disagree with me or a stranger who is just trying to cause trouble, I'll leave up your slightly snarky comment.

It really is OK to have differences in opinion here at SMB. I have a lot of "crunchy" friends, while I'm more mainstream (at least about food, sunscreen, and breastfeeding). We all agree to support each other in our different choices because our choices are made from a desire to do what's best for our individual families.

In the future, I'd appreciate it if you included your name so we can discuss differences of opinion in a respectful way. Thanks!

I found a stick that I can keep in my purse for ball games, ect when I need sunscreen for Addi in a dash! Perfect for faces & ears! I also use the spray- it's so quick & easy!

Jenn, I LOVE the sticks! Especially for wiggly toddlers. I was always afraid I'd get lotion in their eyes. I also like using it for my face and ears. I just feels nicer on my skin. :)

I have two shades...white and red. So sunscreen is a must for me! I prefer the lotion. I have tried the spray for Emily and she did not like it. I end up having to spray it on my hands and then applying it - that kind of defeats the purpose! So I stick with the lotion now. I also like the sticks for face and ears.

Dawn, that's my feeling about the spray, too.

Yup! I avoid the spray...we stick with SPF 50 from Coppertone or Banana Boat.
