I sat in my glider
Until the doorbell rang.
At 7:45. In. The. Morning.
That will get you out of bed in a hurry! Joel jumped up and ran to the door. By the time he reached the front door the person on the other side was POUNDING. When he opened the door he saw two utility trucks and a police officer.
Apparently, they were replacing the utility pole at the corner of our property and needed Joel to move his truck, which was parked on the street near the pole.
Joel hurriedly moved his truck into our driveway and joined the boys in their room. They lifted the shades on the windows, sat on Will's bed and watched the men replace the utility pole outside our house.
I use the term "replace" loosely. What I really mean is they put in a pole right beside the old one and strapped the two poles together after cutting off the bottom of the old pole.
It begs the question why?
Why cut the bottom off of a perfectly good pole? Why leave it supported by another pole and WOODEN BLOCKS?!
And why start this project before 8 AM?!
Can anyone answer these questions for me?

Stephanie...I will not even begin to guess the answers to your questions. I do NOT know.
Have a good weekend.
You'd think...with snow on the ground they would wait until the sun was up a little more and it would be slightly warmer. You'd think anyway. Who knows what goes on in their minds. :)
Hum, I got it! You live in RI!
Why is a very good question indeed. Let me know if you ever have an answer.
I would suppose they tied the old one to the hew one to keep it standing up, since they cut off its bottom... Other than that, I don't know why they did everything else. Since some of the wires may still be connected, they may keep the old post for a little while.
The kids were really excited to see everything happening though! And, although early, it must have been some very valuable 'edu-tainment'. :)
This reminds me of a long time ago (I guess 4 years?) when you had contruction trucks on your street. You emailed us (remember the Andrea/Sheila emails) about Will (I think it was only Will) watching that free entertainment. Your property taxes are doing double duty!
By the way, I just saw noticed your name on the V-day Giveaway at 5MFM, and just have to say how cool it is for you that you have that job!
I should have mentioned that all the lines are still attached to the old pole.
i agree...i even get annoyed with the garbage truck. nothing should wake up my kids!!!
Before 8? Definitely no good reason!!! :)
